A breast reduction serves to create a youthful, smaller and more lifted breast. Macromastia (large breasts) can be a result of various factors, including hormonal influences. Symptoms of larger breasts, other than aesthetic factors, include neck and back pain, poor posture, and difficulty fitting into clothing. A breast reduction can help correct these symptoms in addition to creating a more aesthetic-appearing breast. Incisions are made around the areola, often with a vertical component, and a transverse component along the inframammary fold (the fold underlying the breast).
